Protect and use recovery codes

Store one-time recovery codes safely and use one only when your normal authenticator is unavailable.

A recovery code is a one-time secret. Never send one to another person.

Save recovery codes when they are shown

Nova recovery codes are shown during the protected setup flow and cannot be displayed again afterward. Each code can be used once. Save them before leaving the page and confirm that the saved copy is readable.

Use an approved password manager or another protected location controlled by you or your organization. Do not store codes in email, chat, screenshots, unprotected notes, or beside your password.

Use a recovery code

  1. Open the approved Nova sign-in or password recovery flow.
  2. Choose the recovery-code method when it is available for your account.
  3. Enter one unused code exactly as saved.
  4. Mark that code as used in your secure record.
  5. After regaining access, review your authenticator and generate a replacement recovery set through the approved account process if needed.

If codes are lost or exposed

Treat lost or exposed recovery codes as an account security issue. If you can still sign in, use the approved account process to replace them. If you cannot sign in, contact your administrator or Hansec Support through a trusted channel. Support should never ask you to send a recovery code.
